We cannot understand others only by using our own perspective; we have to go beyond ourselves and look through someone else's eyes and see their perspective and the environment in which they exist.
Miguel, I read this piece when it came out, and then again today out loud to my husband. It was superb timing for a neutral voice on this topic of differing perspectives and their roots. My husband struggles with the decisions of my adult daughters partner who grew up in poverty, is not educated and often needed to chose between a series of poor options just to survive. Thank you for the reminder that people typically are doing the best they know how at any given time. Compassion over judgement is rarely misplaced.

Thank you so much Bonnie for sharing this beautiful experience. I'm grateful this topic was impactful for you and your husband.
