Our Capitalist system’s primary goal is always to deliver more, deliver faster, and deliver at a lower price. It comes from the industrial age, where machines were optimized to reduce costs and produce more goods.
Here's a small excerpt from Seth Godin’s podcast on "Industry and its discontents."
Industry craves productivity because cheaper wins, but cheaper productivity comes from cheaper labour with fewer protections. Industry demands that everyone in the system feels obligated to go against their morals because productivity is, in many cases, a race to the bottom.
We see the need for productivity in all aspects of our lives and across the globe today—the mindset ripples across all types of careers and jobs. As a result, our societies have learned that it's necessary to work long hours to feel successful.
But let's be clear, there's nothing wrong with working hard and burning the midnight oil from time to time when you’re giving one last push. But it's not what's happening in a lot of cases.
The problem is that industry has us believing that this is what success looks like, not because it wants to, but because it has to, so it can keep functioning the way it has since its inception.
How many of us consider health and well-being a form of success? Only a tiny number of the population truly believes that and makes decisions in line with such belief.
The ones that do aren't better than the ones that don't. What's truly important is recognizing the system we're in and making conscious choices about what we want and need, not what's expected by the system.
Only when we become aware of the system can we truly make a change.

He describes his seven levels in increased effectiveness, and he does it using Harry Potter references. Interestingly enough, his process is not all that different from mine.
