The operating battery
The operating battery powers our greatness; it's at the root of our innovative ideas. It gives us the deep focus to solve complex problems and move those projects to the finish line.
The operating battery powers our greatness; it's at the root of our innovative ideas. It gives us the deep focus to solve complex problems and move those projects to the finish line. It provides us with the courage to continue when all seems at a loss, and most importantly, it provides us with the empathy the world deserves from us.
Here is the good news: it's relatively cheap to top up our operating battery, and doing so goes a long way. It helps ensure we have enough energy to address the needs of the circumstances that present themselves.
But letting ourselves run low and near-empty is costly.
As the next crisis not so surprisingly hits us, if we're nearing empty already, we don't have nearly enough juice to offer the focus, poise, and resilience it needs.
A crisis that might have been simple to handle in nature instantly becomes too much and eventually runs us dry.
And like many batteries, we don't recover well from complete depletion.
Total depletion leaves us burned out; it clouds our judgments, makes us forget who we are, what we care about, and leaves us feeling empty, drained and uninterested.
Who pays for the damages? You and the people closest to you, your business, and the organization that employs you.
Why risk it? What are we gaining?
Being a professional isn't about hustling our way on empty; it's about knowing when to recharge, so we're ready to hit the ground running and give our best to the next problem that shows up, and trust me, it will.
The need to keep ourselves charged isn't a bug, it's a feature, and it's our superpower.
Working out, good sleep, and reading a great book are some of the ways I recharge my battery; what are yours?
