Lerdsila Chumpairtour is a 40 years old Muay Thai world champion who developed a fighting style different than most.
He's known for his ability to evade his opponent’s attacks fluidly. People call him "The Eel on a skateboard.” If you're curious, watch a few seconds of this video.
While fighting isn't something I enjoy watching, there's something to learn from him.
He doesn't care about winning or losing; his priority is having fun. As such, he brings elegance to his fights, he moves with flow, and he never works harder than his opponents.
One might think he's faster and stronger, when in fact, he's trained himself to move ahead of and with his opponents.
As we lead our teams and projects in our business, professional and personal lives, the circumstances we face often don't go according to plan. It can seem like we're facing an opponent, standing in our away, ready to attack.
We have a choice.
We can decide to push back, use force and try harder. The hustle culture would have us believe that success is simply a matter of trying harder.
Or we can work more thoughtfully and elegantly.
We can appreciate what is before us, face it, not by force, but by moving with it; we can use its momentum, be thoughtful and learn from it.
